GBCC 50th Anniversary Celebration in Beijing

After a successful anniversary event at the FCDO in London, GBCC celebrated its 50th birthday with a reception for China-based partners at the British Ambassador’s Residence in Beijing. The celebration was co-hosted by GBCC’s Chair Sir Martin Davidson and HM’s Ambassador to China Dame Caroline Wilson.

Over 130 guests joined the celebration from across Chinese ministries, universities, think thanks, businesses, civil society organisations, legal communities and Beijing-based embassies. Vice Minister Ma Hui from the IDCPC, Director-General Duan Nonggen from the Supreme People’s Court and Professor He Jiahong from Common Law Centre at Renmin University gave speeches, representing GBCC’s political, legal and academic cooperation.

HMA Dame Caroline Wilson, Deputy Head of Mission Geraldine McCaffery, GBCC Director Merethe Borge Macleod and GBCC Chair Sir Martin Davidson reflected on GBCC’s history as well as future role in the next 50 years.

Playing on GBCC’s acronym, Vice Minister Ma Hui described it as the ‘Great Bridge for Communication and Cooperation’ in his remarks.
