This website is run by the Great Britain China Centre. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible, for example:

GBCC does not have a permanent office and therefore does not have an office telephone service.

Images
Some images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).
Some images contain text within them. The text within these images may be hard for some users to see, or listen to using a screen reader. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.5 (images of text).
We have just launched our new website and we are continually adding text alternatives for images and intend to complete this process by 31st January 2024. [SN2] When we publish new content we will make sure our use of images meets accessibility standards.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
Navigational Issues
Some pages of the website have an incorrect heading structure, so screen readers may have difficulty navigating these pages. This fails WCAG success criterion 2.4.10 Section Headings. GBCC plans to correct the heading structures by 30th September 2021.[SN3]
There are several form fields on the website which are not correctly labelled, which may mean users will not know what information is required and prevent them from accessing information. This fails WCAG success criterion 3.3.2 Labels or Instructions. GBCC plans to correct the form field labels by 30th September 2021.
The website contains a non-descriptive link, which may mean users cannot easily determine the function of the link. This fails Success Criterion 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context). GBCC plans to correct the non-descriptive link by 30th September 2021.

PDFs and other documents
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.
GBCC is currently updating the documents on its website in line with accessibility regulations. Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
