Celebrating 50 Years of Dialogue and Engagement

Established in July 1974, GBCC took the opportunity to mark it’s 50th birthday with a panel discussion and a reception held at the FCDO’s beautiful Locarno Suite.

Over 200 participants from across government, parliament, London-based embassies, academia, business, think tanks and the judicial and legal professions, joined the celebration. The panel discussion on the next 50 years of the UK-China relationship featured reflections from Professor Rana Mitter, Dr Yu Jie, and The Right Hon Lord Hodge, as well as questions and comments from the audience.

Reception speeches were given by GBCC Honorary President The Rt Hon Sir David Lidington, the newly appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary for the FCDO Catherine West MP, H.E. the Chinese Ambassador Zheng Zeguang, and GBCC Chair Sir Martin Davidson.

Old friends caught up and new connections were made against the backdrop of photos from GBCC’s 50 years of history.

We would like to thank everyone for joining us to mark the occasion and emphasise the significance of the UK-China relationship, and we look forward to another 50 years of dialogue and engagement!
